SDC messaging tokens explained
Tokens limit repeated unanswered messages, not genuine conversations. Standard members have up to five tokens for starting connections, or ten with referral-earned Premium; replies are free and a two-way conversation becomes unlimited.

Earn Premium by inviting a member
Share the personal invitation link in your profile and ask a new member to join. When they verify their phone and complete their profile, you earn Premium: a crown on your profile photo and a capacity of ten tokens instead of five.
Premium has no expiry date. It remains active while at least one qualifying referred profile is active; if that profile is deleted, Premium is revoked unless another qualifying referral remains. Existing members and self-referrals do not qualify. We send an SMS when the reward is awarded.
The same first-spend 24-hour timer applies, and a Premium balance refills to ten, not ten extra. On upgrade we add the extra five tokens without resetting an existing countdown. Standard-membership examples below use five.
What uses a token?
A successfully sent message costs one token if the other person has not messaged you in that conversation. That includes a first introduction, a follow-up before they reply and an introduction to a different person.
| Action | Token cost |
|---|---|
| Send an introduction with no incoming message | 1 |
| Send another message before that person replies | 1 each |
| Reply to someone who messaged you first | 0 |
| Continue after both of you have sent a message | 0, unlimited |
| Read messages or contact SDC Support | 0 |
When does the 24-hour timer start?
The timer starts when you spend your first token, not when you log in. With all five tokens available, there is no active refill countdown. Further paid messages in the same window do not restart or extend the timer.
After 24 hours, your balance returns to five, even if you have tokens left. Unused tokens do not accumulate: two remaining becomes five, not seven. The next countdown begins only when you spend a token from that refreshed balance. It is not a midnight reset.
A worked example
- At 10 am on Monday, you have five tokens and send Alex an introduction. Your balance becomes four and the refill is due at 10 am Tuesday.
- At noon, you send Alex a follow-up before a reply arrives. You have three tokens left; the refill time stays 10 am Tuesday.
- Alex replies at 2 pm. Your conversation with Alex is now unlimited and token-free for both of you. Alex’s reply does not refund the tokens already spent.
- At 10 am Tuesday, your balance returns to five. If your next paid introduction is at 4 pm, the next refill is due at 4 pm Wednesday.
Names and times in this example are illustrative, not member activity.
What if I reach zero?
You can still read your inbox, reply to incoming messages and continue conversations that are already token-free. You need the next refill before sending another message in a conversation where the other person has not messaged you.
The chat shows your remaining balance and, while a refill window is active, the time left. An unlimited conversation may still show a countdown for your account: that timer applies to tokens for other connections, not to the free conversation you are viewing.
Why SDC uses this model
A limit on unanswered messages discourages mass introductions and repeated follow-ups. It encourages you to read a profile and send something relevant, while letting a mutual connection continue without a token charge for every message.
Tokens do not buy attention, guarantee a response or create an obligation to reply. If someone does not respond, respect their choice. Support messages are separate from member dating conversations and do not use tokens.
Free guides like this one will stay free. If you would like personal feedback on your first messages, SDC is piloting an optional, dating profile and messaging review for SDC or other platforms.
